Justin Bieber: No. 1 – on top of the Charts

The newest teen heartthrob to have girls screaming and swooning all over the world is no one less than sweet-faced, dirty blond-haired rising star and Usher protégé Justin Bieber. The teenage singing dynamo’s newest album, “My World 2.0,” has dethroned Lady Antebellum’s album “Need You Now” to currently become the number one album on the Billboard 200 album chart after selling 283,000 copies in its debut week.

“My World 2.0,” Bieber’s second album, is the teen star’s first full-length LP and his first number 1. At barely 16 years old, Bieber has achieved a great feat: he is the youngest solo male artist to win that coveted spot atop the Billboard 200 album chart since the legendary Stevie Wonder did it in 1963 at the age of 13. “My World,” the short, debut album from the teenage phenomenon that was released in November of 2009, rose five spots this week and presently inhabits the number 5 spot on the charts.

The last artist, male or female, to have two albums in the top 5 spots on the Billboard 200 album chart was rapper Nelly in 2004. Together, Bieber’s two hit albums have grossed close to 1.4 million copies so far.
